What Drives the Cost of Custom Clothing for a New Brand
We quote every order individually rather than publish list prices, because the same style can vary widely in cost. These are the factors that move the number, roughly in order of impact.
Material
- Fabric weight and fibre: the biggest lever on unit cost.
- Number of styles and colours: each style and colourway carries its own setup.
- Decoration: single-colour screen print is the most economical start; embroidery and puff add cost.
Construction and decoration
- Construction: simple blocks first; fashion details add labour.
- Labels and packaging: a woven neck label and hang tag are enough for a launch.
- Samples: budget one sample per style before bulk.
Quantity
- 5-piece runs: setup and pattern cost is spread across few units; from around 50 pieces the unit cost drops materially.
- Size spread: many sizes in a small run means more patterns per unit; one or two sizes keeps it efficient.
