Specification
Leather for Bomber Jackets
Bombers sit lighter than biker jackets, so most brands choose a softer hide. These are the bands we typically run; specify a different weight and we confirm it on your quote.
| Hide | Typical thickness | Character | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lambskin | 0.6 to 0.9 mm (1.5 to 2.25 oz) | Soft, light, close drape | Fashion and cropped bombers |
| Goatskin | 0.8 to 1.0 mm (2 to 2.5 oz) | Fine grain, hard-wearing, light | MA-1 and classic bombers |
| Cowhide | 1.0 to 1.2 mm (2.5 to 3 oz) | Structured, holds its shape | Heavier winter bombers |
| Split suede | 0.8 to 1.2 mm (2 to 3 oz) | Napped, matte surface | Suede and racer bombers |
| Sheepskin / shearling | Hide-dependent | Wool-on, insulating | Collars, linings and aviator bombers |
| PU / vegan leather | 0.8 to 1.2 mm (2 to 3 oz) | Consistent, animal-free | Accessible private-label ranges |
Grades: full-grain, top-grain and corrected-grain. Finishes: aniline, semi-aniline, pigmented, nappa, distressed or washed.
Construction
Bomber Construction and Trims
The details that make a bomber read as premium. Each is specified per style and confirmed on the pre-production sample.

| Front zip | YKK #5 or #8 metal or nylon coil as standard, two-way zips optional, custom pullers and tape colours on request. |
| Lining | Diamond or onion-quilted polyester, plain satin, cotton twill, or a printed lining carrying your brand. |
| Pockets | Welt or flap hand pockets, internal chest pocket, and the MA-1 sleeve utility pocket with zip or snap. |
| Hardware | Snaps, eyelets and adjusters in nickel, gunmetal, antique brass or custom-plated finishes. |
| Sizing | XS to 4XL graded to your size chart. Made-to-measure available for team and club orders. |

Pricing
What Drives the Cost of a Custom Leather Bomber
We quote every jacket individually rather than publish list prices, because the same style can vary widely in cost. These are the factors that move the number, roughly in order of impact.
Material
- Hide type and grade: the largest single factor. Full-grain lambskin and PU sit at opposite ends of the range.
- Thickness and finish: heavier hides and aniline finishes cost more than pigmented, lighter leathers.
- Lining: a printed branded lining or shearling costs more than plain quilted polyester.
Construction and decoration
- Panel count and complexity: a quilted double-rider takes far longer to cut and sew than a minimal café racer.
- Hardware specification: the number of zips and snaps, and custom-plated versus standard finishes.
- Branding: embossed patches, embroidery, woven labels, hang tags and packaging.
Quantity
- 5-piece runs: pattern and setup cost is spread across few units; from around 50 pieces the unit cost drops materially.
- Size spread: many sizes in a small run means more patterns per unit; made-to-measure is quoted per piece.
